HOW
IT ALL STARTED
DayOne had its beginnings in Battle Creek over twenty years ago, when
Philip Ptacin, M.D., started his practice of family medicine treating
the "whole person" - not just the "health condition".
He joined with other physicians and professional healthcare
providers to establish a patient focused primary care practice, devoted
to the same mission.
FAMILY PRACTICE What does it mean?
Many years ago, most doctors were general practitioners. In fact,
in the 1940s, 80% of physicians were general practitioners and 20%
were specialists. Today there are more specialists than general practitioners.
It is often difficult today to find one doctor who will care for an
entire family over the years with all it various health needs.
In 1969, though, a new 'specialty' was approved by the American Medical
Association-that of Family Practice and that's the type of physician
you will find at DayOne. Our physicians are specialists. We are graduates
of a training program that has prepared us to care for the health
of entire families, regardless of the age or sex of its members. For
example, at DayOne we care for children, do 'pap smears'
and female exams, treat diseases of the heart, treat skin disorders,
do office surgery, and much more. Most of your health care needs can
be met at our office. At times, we will refer you to another specialist
for help in caring for you, but we still consider ourselves 'your
doctor' and will continue to be the coordinator of your health care.
A 'TEAM' APPROACH
We
believe that working together as a team is the best way to assure
quality care for our patients. That's why at our regular office
meetings, we update each other on our patients' health problems
and share ideas for improved patient care and office procedures.
As a team, our physicians and other practitioners can offer your
family added understanding and consideration concerning your health.
Our team is your team and we're' always available to you.
When
you become a DayOne patient, one of our Family Practice doctors
will be assigned as your primary physician. He or she will always
have a special interest in you and in the treatment and care you
receive. Because your doctor can't always be here every moment of
every day, occasionally you may be seen by another member of our
team. When this is necessary, we hope you'll understand. Please
be assured that your family doctor will remain fully informed about
the status of your care.
Physician
Assistants and Nurse Practitioners are also a valuable part of our
team. They have received professional training and are certified
to take medical histories, perform physical exams, order lab work
and other diagnostic tests. These professionals prescribe medications,
formulate treatment plans, and work closely with your physician
to provide medical care.
We
are always available for emergencies. For urgent or emergency care
after hours, call 969-6123.
